Wintertime Blues?

Fishing in the winter can be some of the best fishing of the year.  If you fish in the middle of the day, on a warmer day, it can be a home run! Fish have to eat to survive, so when the water has been cold and it warms up a few degrees, they usually put on the old feed bag. If you understand this and use it to your advantage you are in for some good times.

Kimball and I did just that. We checked out the weather forecast and left a couple hours later than we would have in the spring or summer. Got to our favorite spot and there were other fishermen already there. No problem, there were still A LOT less fishermen than in the spring and summer. We just went to option 3. We hammered the fish.  We then drove 10 miles further down the river, so we could be by ourselves and caught a bunch more.

The fish didn’t hit hard, but enough to know you had something on. I caught 5 fish over 5 pounds and one around 7 pounds. Not bad for a cold winter day! We finished up early and headed home to end a perfect winter day! No blues for me!
